Leon has some rap thoughts. Austin watches more Star Trek. Johnny has some feels about Hold the Dark. Other topics include urban legends, James Bond, Elon Musk, Hilda and more.

Klingons: Ostensibly "honorable warriors", but it's more like a CCG where you play for reputation points. Worf's weird because he actually thinks he should be "honorable", while the other Klingons are more concerned with playing the game to appear honorable. Like the real offense is not doing something bad but if someone accuses you of it publicly. Makes me wonder how often we have "honorable warriors" in SF/F that live up to that satisfyingly to the audience. In Babylon 5 the Minbari warrior caste start off with bugs up their asses over a couple of things (basically losing fights), but the character that's the face of them to the audience comes around some.
{B5 Spoiler: Whats up the Minbari warrior caste asses?}1. While they were happily genociding Humanity they got called off by the ruling council in Earth orbit, it being called a "surrender" on their part even. 2. During said genocidal war, they were swooping in to finish off an Earth ship sending out a distress signal, only to be blowed up themselves by mines placed around it as a trap, their only real loss in the war of kicking humanity's puppies.
Cardassians: As I recall, more the miltaristic, total-control, Big Brother bureaucracy where you're either a cog in the mill or being ground by it. And if you ascend to coghood you can still be crushed Hmm, it's actually a comforting thought that it wasn't organized around personal individual power, if I'm remembering right. They weren't mercilessly evil for personal gain, but for the good of the state. That could be comparatively nice. (That's halfway tongue-in-cheek.)
No, you can watch Korra, it is just not as good as Avatar. I especially like the third season: Change. But I understand why one would find the first season not as gripping, the middle part is weak until the menace of Amon really kicks in. Also the comedic sidekicks need really long to grow on you and the first loveinterest Mako is as a character bland.
"When the pirates showed up, the fight music just happend in my head." Leon Thomas, Part 39 Dat Accent

This rap song that Leon described as "having a lot of energy" - was it "Big Dick" energy?
Casino Royale (1967)* is the Bond parody Leon was recommended (with Woody Allen!). It's not very good (though the theme song is a bit of an ear worm).
So speaking as a lawyer, was the trial of humanity in Encounter at Farpoint legally accurate? I love Tapestry too. ("Q, you are not God. The universe is not that badly designed!") Errm, If you thought Q was rapey on DS9, he was worse on Voyager. I have heard people complaining that Janeway did not "Lie back and think of Starfleet" when Q offered to get Voyager home if she slept with him (really!).
{Thoughts on the Minbari}The Warrior Caste were a bunch of hypocrites. The head of the Anlashok (Rangers) call them out for only being honourable when it suits them, pointing out they were fine with genociding an inferior enemy (humanity) but complained when they successfully lured them into an ambush. But they were not prepared to fight the technologically superior Shadows, because that might involve actual risk of dying.
* Not to be confused with Casino Royale (2006), which is actually good (IMO)

Minbari: There's some consistency not explicitly spelled-out with their attitude of displaying weapons. It's not a threat, but a "See? I'm armed and being honest with you about it. I'm not going to sneak-attack you suddenly with hidden weapons. That would be despicable." But the Minbari as a whole seem to have lost the point and gotten theirs heads stuck up their asses, quite a feat with their head crests.
On Q: Yeah, we don't like Q because he's likable.
On Bond: I recall the Dalton "reboot". I wasn't a fan beforehand, so I was fine with them being more generic action movies and not so Bondian. The Brosnan ones were too goofy in a way that wasn't fun for me. By Craig I just didn't care either way anymore.
Locob0: its been almost a year since word funk went on a indefinate hiatus, i still miss it it was the highlight of my week and it kept me happy
