Kind of an odd title, but a while ago, I spoke in the shoutbox with a few others about some of the D&D stuff I've been working on regarding a campaign world I've been building, and they said I should share it. Since my scanner doesn't work (will have to wait until uni starts again most likely), I haven't yet. But I figured it'd also be cool for people to talk about characters they've rolled up, or that they've wanted to use. Just a way to share characters amongst ourselves and laugh about how awesome/silly/cool they are.
So, yeah, if any of y'all have any characters in D&D that were particularly memorable, feel free to throw 'em in here.
And, now I have a little more free time, here's one of mine to kick things off.
Let's start with my Tiefling Bard, Carrion Beatdropper (I have yet to be able to field-test any of my characters, so apologies for the lack of *actual* exploits).
Carrion grew up an outcast, living a life in the Iron City of Dis, where he had been sent shortly after birth, to avoid the cutting words and insulting gestures of "polite" society. Alone and friendless, even in the Nine Realms, Carrion turned to music as his method of expressing himself, and spent ten years practicing his musical and magical skills. Carrion grew up a skilled (although not naturally gifted) flautist, and set his sights on a career as a travelling bard, searching for the freedom and companionship he had been missing most of his life.
But, it was not to be, as one day, in a moment of youthful arrogance, Carrion wound up caught in a fistfight with a local fighting champion, who, upon his victory over the scrawny Tiefling, tore his arm off and threw it into a pool of lava, with Carrion forced to watch, screaming for mercy, as he saw the only future he'd ever known literally melt away before his eyes. After all, what use was a bard who could not hold his instrument.
Unable to afford the fee to have his arm replaced magically, Carrion existed, a shell of his former self, his only purpose in life ripped away from him. Until, one fateful night, while sitting, lost and alone in his own mind in the Garden of Delights, salvation appeared, as Carrion heard the sound of music filling his ears. Further exploration led him to an elderly Tiefling named Yatagarasu, who looked upon Carrion sadly and led him away from the Garden safely, before imparting some wisdom, and a song, onto the young Tiefling. "For a Tiefling, existence itself is difficult, young Carrion. You must not let yourself fall at the first hurdle. The world still needs your skills, and your voice."
Carrion looked up at Yatagarasu, and down at his stump of an arm, before he felt the music from before pushing through his brain, connecting dots that had previously gone unnoticed, and Carrion, for the first time since he lost his arm, felt his soul was at peace again. "I...understand." Carrion, his resolve restored once more, spent some time with Yatagarasu perfecting the basics of his own style of music, a method he referred to as Rhythm And Poetry, or R.A.P for short. Taking on the name Beatdropper as a reminder of who he was now, Carrion departed the Nine Hells for the Material Realm, determined to make his mark on history once more.
