To Johnny on episodic TV in the 90s: Babylon 5 was early/mid-90s and not really episodic. It started off more episodic in the first season to ease people into things and set the stage, but had a continuing story. It only sometimes dipped into full serialization, but it inhabited a larger world where things kept progressing and changing. Yeah, the show had a small budget and not the best acting/production, and real-world problems like PTEN folding and a convention hotel maid throwing out season notes hampered the fourth and fifth seasons, but it was a great five-year story. The first episode is like the "guards see a ghost" scene in Hamlet in what it all eventually leads to in the Narn/Centauri, G'Kar/Londo arc over the years. It just started streaming for free on go90, just imagine you're watching a local TV station outside of prime-time filling air time with a syndicated TV show in the 90s. "Get on down to Dealing Doug's for a deal on a new automobile!". As big as a fan of B5 as I was, though, I might say just looser-connected season-long arcs are a better way to go, but then you could have kinda clunker seasons like Buffy doing that too.
On Capitalism: Maybe I'm being pedantic, but the *basics* of capitalism aren't evil to me. Individual people can own stuff. There's money people can also have. You can exchange that money for goods and services with other people. The problem is when people lie, cheat, steal, corrupt the government, and twist society around to GET ALL THE MONIES for themselves. It's not because money exists that when you buy something the money goes to people who didn't do anything for it beyond sucking off a money-gathering machine.
Also walked away from the podcast for just a bit and come back to, "My penis is part of me!". Yeah, I don't get the "Mr. Winky" attitude either.
