With regards to Bond... I still haven't seen Spectre, but I've been a bit disillusioned with the franchise since The World Is Not Enough. I think I know the exact face that Johnny was making at the "Christmas is going to come twice this year" line, because I too died a little inside in the theater after being subjected to that. Damn it, Pierce Brosnan, you were a big enough star to just say "Fuck no, I won't say it! You can't make me say it!"
I'd still give the Craig movies a shot, especially Casino Royale and Skyfall (I like Spectre a lot too, but I know I'm a minority in that. I enjoyed Quantum for what it was, as well). Like Austin said, the Craig movies tend to be chasing Bourne's down-to-earth action style, so it's a bit grittier and more dramatic. Craig isn't especially suave at all; he flirts with a few girls, but mostly he's a hardened killer who drinks less for fun than to help him cope with the brutal stuff he goes through.
My problem with Spectre was that it went back to a lot of the ridiculousness that more recent Bonds had moved away from: the villains actually had understandable reasons for what they were doing. Goldeneye: a "betrayed" spy acting with renegade Russians wants revenge; Tomorrow Never Dies:
I agree Blofeld's personal history with Bond in Spectre is kinda dumb. For me, when the Sony hack happened, I read that the script leaked and that people were concerned about the last act being dumb because of that twist. Then I saw the movie and it was only like two lines of dialogue, so it wasn't that bad.
Plus I love the music; Thomas Newman is amazing. Also, octopuses everywhere
