Greetings everyone. I’ve been here for a while now, but I still felt the need to introduce myself.
My real life name is Arsenii, I am from Ukraine, though right now I live in Poland. You probably know me as Guy Montag (yes, it’s a 451 reference) on twitter, or by my nickname insomnia1995.
I am mostly known as that guy, who did a short animated cartoon based on “The idiot downstairs” from season 1 of Dice Funk.
I am an animator, artist, illustrator, critic and film enthusiast. Right now I am a student at my final Bachelor’s year at PJATK Warsaw. I like movies, videogames, anime, cartoons, comic books etc. I could call myself a “geek”, but after the fuss about Ghostbusters this year, I started to hate what this word means, and became really disappointed with geek-culture in general.
I also have a blog, and a livejournal. I write mostly about movies, occasionally about games or real life stuff. Though it’s all in Russian. I wrote only one post entirely in English.
I mostly do fanart and, recently, animated gifs based on Dice Funk.
The story of me getting into funkyverse if quite a long one, but I think It’s worth it.
About 4-5 years ago I got my first Ipad and I really got into video-reviews of movies and games. I watched a hella lot of Nostalgia Critic, and later a lot of many other people from “thatguywiththeglasses”, later known as “Channel Awesome”. One day, my idol Nostalgia Critic made a video “Is Big Lebowsky as masterpiece?” where he did a little promotion for some other show on Channel Awesome. The one, that did a serious analysis of “Big Lebowsky”. The video was called “The layers of Lebowsky”. Back then I thought to myself “Well, this is pretentious! Why would anyone need to do a serious in-depth analysis about a fun little movie like this one!?” And I dismissed the show at first.
But then, I kinda got tired with NC (I think he became really bad after Demo Reel) and all similar kinds of reviewers. I was studying scriptwriting at that time, and was writing my first script. So I wanted to go deeper into film criticism. And that was the time to go back to that one show, I initially dismissed. The show, of course, was “Renegade Cut” by Leon Thomas. I really liked it at first, and when I saw that he also hates “Man of Steel”, I knew that it was love.
I should note, that I have a tendency to get eventually disappointed with most shows or people I follow. But Renegade Cut stuck with me for all these years. I was watching it for a long time, and tried to promote it everywhere I could.
At some point I also stumbled upon Word Funk. This was the first time I ever listened to any audio podcast and I really loved it. I love all the trio. Honestly, I kinda think they’re underrated. They should be celebrities, or something. They deserve promotion more than many other people in this world, in my opinion. Though, maybe if they were famous, they would become worse people eventually, as it often happens with fame.
At some point they started talking about some sort of “Dice Funk”. At first I thought it was another one of their in-jokes. But then the first episode of it came out. I listened to it, and laughed my ass off. It was great. Not just another podcast, but more like an actual radio-show.
Here I should note, that I have to travel a lot, and my favorite way to kill some time in a long journey by train or bus, is listening to podcasts. So, usually I skipped as many episodes of Dice Funk as possible, so I could listen to them in a row in my travels, and get a more complete picture. At some point I got to “Idiot Downstairs”, and it was the best episode. It really elevated the story. I suddenly realized that I was incredibly engaged in the story and characters.
I loved it so much I was planning to make a comic book based on the episode. But at some point we had to make an interactive movie for one of our university subjects. And I decided to make an animated movie instead. In the end, I overestimated my abilities a bit. The making of cartoon was incredibly stressful, and by the end of it I hated the cartoon so much that it took me several months to get the courage to share it with you and my friends. It was originally completed in June. This happens to me all the time. I hate almost all my work once it’s finished.
In the end, everyone loved it. My family loved it, friends and classmates loved it, and you guys loved it. I am really grateful for all the responses I got on it. I am quite a melancholic, and I get depressed a lot lately. Seeing my work appreciated always makes me a little happier, even if I don’t like my own work.
That’s mostly it. Though I think you will know a lot more about me in the future. If you have any questions, ask away. I will be happy to respond.
Here's Drop Goodwood, JoJo style.
