Hey! Loads of nerdy stuff! I'm more of a Star Trek nerd than Star Wars (Favourite is 6: Undiscovered Country, but, like Sean I quite like Generations too, or at least, don't get the hate toward it) but I can Wars with the best of them. IIRC, Austin's "Weird & Wrong" Star Trek opinion was that he liked I (The Motion Picture), although I think his favourite was II (Wrath of Khan). He hated anything with Klingons in, though (because he's a huge Speciesist, I guess!) so he did NOT like VI (Undiscovered Country).
But to shift nerdery, I LOVED Rogue One. Yes, we knew the heist succeeded and because we never heard of any of the characters, it seemed likely that they'd all die (though I did think maybe one of them might make it, possibly badly injured but alive). The character that seemed most pointless to me was Saul Gerera, because he was completely unnecessary - they could have had Jin & the pilot get caught up in the ambush and then swept up by the rebels without involving Saul at all (Huge coincidence perhaps, but call it the "Will of the Force"). But I loved the way the Rebels were portrayed as "Doing bad things for good reasons" because that's what happens in wars and how the Rebellion really could face annihilation at any moment. Even the humour mostly worked!
As for decrying what Kids today are doing when compared to what we did when we were young & cool - I wouldn't know. While I was once young, I was never cool. Still, it is the nature of - well, time really - to look back fondly on what was old & familiar when we see something new & unfamiliar.

i was also thinking of how the past two star wars movies were released in December
Traditionally, the two big movie seasons are summer and december/christmas. Force Awakens was supposed to come out in May, but had to be delayed half a year and was still super successful.
I think the reason they're keeping Star Wars in december indefinitely is a combination of that, the lack of strong competition in winter, not wanting to conflict with Disney's other Marvel movies, and of course december toy sales. Every SW movie is a toy factory XD (Even Shadows of the Empire, the movie without a movie)
