Hey all! As you've probably noticed by now, Shack Funk has begun, and I am in need of guests! I'd been debating how to go about recruitment, since there's a lot of technicals to go over, and Her Randomness (long may she funk) suggested I just make a thread, so here goes:
-We record the show in Audacity, but conduct the call in Discord (I also have Skype, but prefer not to use it). Discord is available as a downloadable program for PC as well as an app, but as far as I know Audacity requires a PC, so you'll need a PC.
-While it's possible to record with a headset, we've run into difficulties with the microphone picking up the audio output from the headphone speaker (creating an echo effect; it's bad). It's preferable for you to have a separate microphone and headphone setup, if possible. Also, while most background white noise (fans, etc) are pretty easy to remove with Audacity's noise filter, you should still try to limit background noise as much as possible during recording (for my sake as an editor, please ).
-If you want to do an episode, either say so on this thread so I can message you, or send me a message. At best, I'll do one episode a week (no more than that), so it's possible you may have to wait a few weeks, depending how many applicants I get. Also, if/when Funk Dunk Plays records, I'll be taking those weeks off from Shack Funk.
-My schedule of available hours, typically, is that I get out of work at 2PM EST and go to bed at 8PM EST on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday are my days off, and I prefer to keep them that way, though I don't mind using them for editing and can also record on those days if need be. (If this schedule changes for me, I'll update the post).
-Once we meet up on Discord, if you're using a headset I may have you run a recording test on Audacity to make sure it's not picking up your headphone noise. A useful workaround, I've found, is to use earbuds for your headphones, since those seem less likely to leak sound (especially the noise-cancelling variety).
-After recording, you'll have to save your Audacity project (in case of crashing), then Export it as an MP3 (requiring you to download and install the Lame encoder: old.audacityteam.org/help/faq_i18n?s=install&i=lame-mp3&lang=en )
-You will need to somehow send me the MP3 file afterward. Mediafire, FileFactory, and Dropbox are all good options; you'll just need to set up an account with one of them.
I think that about covers it. Also, try to have a good, stable internet connection too XD. Excited to see how many people we can get on this show
