I mean, I thought Garic was Max Hawthorne, there to check out the party. But I also head the idea that he was their kid. I seem to remember Austin mentioning skin color, which he normally doesn't for normal humans.
Either way, I also always suspected he wasn't really a wizard. If wizards come in all the time, it's a perfect disguise. And why would a wizard who wanted to be well known hide his face? Plus he acted like a caricature of a wizard as they seem to be thought of in this town.
I think finding out he wasn't Hawthorne made me forget.
As for the rest: if the zombies were from Ganny, I'd expect them to somehow carry items. And that Ganny would tell her about it. My guess was originally that they were from Count Danto, but they were going after Dora (not Zoey). Maybe it is the ghosts reanimating their bodies, and going for the clergy of the God of Abominations for help.
I don't think we know enough people to guess who stole the item. Though the different sizes combined with being in town, where giants don't normally go, suggests to me that a giant may be involved.
I still wonder what Lady Nim could have done to Carrie. She must've lost something dear to her, but not so dear she couldn't feel better or that she couldn't get back. Of course, the way Austin runs his campaigns, he may not have thought of the specifics.
I now wonder if Ganny is reporting the story from both watching outside and Theodora's updates. That may suggest he's very interested in Illium. Though he doesn't seem mad at Theodora for having been in there so long, so it must not be urgent. Hmm...
Spoilering something you've already typed is annoying on mobile, but if anyone thinks this should be spoilered, let me know, and I'll do it when I have access to a computer.
